According to the town website, "The ZBA hears and decides applications for special permits, petitions for variances from the terms of the zoning bylaws, site plan approvals as mandated by the zoning ordinance, and appeals from decisions of the Zoning Enforcement Officer (Building Commissioner). View the Arlington Zoning Bylaw and Zoning Map.

The ZBA also reviews comprehensive permit applications under Chapter 40B, the state's affordable-housing law..

UPDATED: The town Zoning Board of Appeals is due to meet Monday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m., to hold a hearing on the proposed development at 1021-1025 Mass. Ave., the proposed project near Brattle Square.

The meeting is being held on the Patriots Day holiday because of scheduling issues, according to Christian Klein, Zoning Board of Appeals chair: "We are nearing the end of the public hearings on the comprehensive permit application for 1021-1025 Mass. Ave. We need to be complete by April 30, and the applicant was unable to attend on Thursday, 4/14. We need to leave extra time in case we need to have one more session before we close the hearings. Juggling the schedules, Monday, 4/17 was the day."
