The Mystic Valley Area Branch of the NAACP is partnering with Encore Boston Harbor to help ensure that local residents and diverse candidates participate in the wide-ranging economic benefits that the $2.5 billion destination resort is expected to bring to local communities.
The Encore Boston Harbor executive team has outlined a plan that commits to local and diverse recruitment and reflects the diversity that is represented in local such communities as Medford, Malden and Everett. The NAACP supports the plan and will work with Encore Boston to help the company achieve its goals.
“The NAACP is pleased to see that Encore Boston Harbor is working to ensure that our local and diverse communities benefit from the vast economic benefits the resort will have on the region,” said Zane Crute, President of the Mystic Valley Area Branch of the NAACP. “Both of our organizations share the belief that creating a workplace with individuals from different cultures and backgrounds results in a better experience for all as well as a more successful business. Furthermore, we believe that economic inclusion is paramount for any project of this magnitude.”
The Encore Boston Harbor team has set goals that 50 percent of their employees be woman and 35 percent minorities. There will be more than 4,000 operational jobs at the resort, ranging from dealers to food servers to accountants. Encore Boston is also looking to provide vendor opportunities to many local and diverse vendors.
The NAACP branch champions those inclusion goals. Additionally, it wants to help ensure that the Wynn Boston Harbor team hires local and diverse candidates in upper level positions.
Encore Boston Harbor will partner with Cambridge College to host its dealer school, which will provide the skills necessary to begin working as a dealer at the casino. The dealer school will train people in casino games and prepare them to work on the floor of the casino. The NAACP, among other groups will work to ensure that candidates who do not have the funds to attend dealer school will be able to attend dealer school.
