Concord Youth Theatre's Teen Company brings "13: The Musical" to its West Concord stage, running Friday, March 31, through Sunday, April 2, a theater representative said.

This coming-of-age story features the music of Tony Award-winner Jason Robert Brown ("The Last Five Years" and "Songs for a New World").

The cast includes Sophie Thielman of Arlington, at left. CYT’s Teen Company is made up of young performers, ages 13 through 18, from area communities.

The plot is as follows: Evan Goldman, age 13, is plucked from New York City and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents' divorce. Entering middle school as the new kid, even accompanied by his new friend, is everything you would expect and more, made tougher by classmates who have never been to New York City, never mind a bar mitzvah. Can he survive middle school and pull off his big day? The answer will develop as the audience watches the interactions of the teen characters in this rock/pop musical as they explore growing up, fitting in and what it means to be a friend.
