UPDATED March 8: Arlington resident Beth Callahan lies in a coma in a San Juan hospital after she fell and hit her head while hiking on vacation.

She had been a physician’s assistant in the intensive-care unit at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Burlington, where she cared for Covid-19 patients. Dealing with the ill and then coming home to help raise 8-year-old twin boys became too much.

At 42, she quit in January. Soon after, she and family flew to Puerto Rico, seeking relief.

But, as BostonGlobe.com reported, Callahan now lies intubated in an ICU after she slipped atop a cliff during an excursion on the island.
